Our partner's mission is to create economic partnerships through support of entrepreneurial efforts of talented, economically struggling people in Ethiopia. Ethiopia is the 6th poorest country in the world and finding employment is extremely difficult. Our partner employs over 70 spinners, dyers, weavers and finishers ranging in age from 20 to 63 years old. They are able to support their families, given access to health care, transportation and a savings account.
Handmade using 100% hand-spun and hand-dyed natural cotton. With every item purchased with us, a tree is planted in partnership with the National Forest Foundation.
The first weavers in Ethiopia travelled with the “moveable courts” and set up their looms on the verandas of the homes of noblemen. Today Ethiopia has garnered the reputation to have some of the most skilled weavers in the world. Weavers used to have a marginalized status in Ethiopia, however today weaving provides a steady income and the skill of talented weavers is highly in demand.
